Ireland has a rich history of writers based all over the country. This website shows locations around Ireland associated with famous Irish literary figures

Since the 19th century, Ireland has produced some of the greatest authors and writers in literature. Novelist Elizabeth Bowen wrote that ‘nothing can happen nowhere,’ and so everything must happen somewhere. Irish writers cultivated their local surroundings to create universal stories, and today, we can still visit most of these locations, themselves transformed by the descriptions and narratives mapped onto them. When we stand in Sligo and look up at Benbulben, or look across the lakes of Innisfree, we hear the echoes of W. B. Yeat’s poetry. This website encourages you to take a journey through the literary landscape of Ireland, to explore the places that inspired some of the great stories of literature.
